Discworld Con 2008 Day Two

This hotel, the Hilton Metropole, does the best breakfasts ever! You can choose from various cereals, fruit cocktails, the usual fried food... and freshly cooked pancakes! Squeeee, pankcakey heaven!

After spending a lovely breakfast with [info]the_magician I wandered off to watch 'The Weakest Guild', hosted by none other than Stephen Briggs. I obviously need to brush up on my Discworld trivia, most of the questions were well beyond me, although the contestants performed wonderfully with the Witches Guild taking the prize.

Then it was off to the book signing to get my copy of Making Money signed by Terry. It over-ran hugely, but I spent the time in enjoyable conversation with a lady by thename of Nancy, who had never been to a Discworld convention before.

TIme to hit the Dealers Room. I got som lovely jewelry, including a purple dolphin necklace for my mother, and I bought a copy of Game Night by Jonny Nexus. Having already gotten to the end of chapter seven, I can highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good giggle and a well written tale.

'Tales from Folklore' came next, and I was able to pick up a lot of ideas for T'Fae. There are three Folklore events in all, and I'll be attending all of them looking for ideas.

Then came the highlight of the day! The Maskerade! Usually I'm either in the Maskerade or working for Tech, but this time I was comfortably seated to watch the whole show. And what a show! The host, Pat, was an event all by himself, keeping us entertained and often in gales of laughter while each act got ready to take to the stage. He has a great singing voice into the bargain. I don't know where to start with the acts. There was a Dwarven Seamstress, an adorably inept Barbarian, an exploding Swamp Dragon and so much more! The highlight of the show for me, however, was a young woman with the most beautiful voice singing 'Defying Gravity' as Tiffany, complete with adjusted lyrics. She won Best In Show, and she deserved it more than anyone!

After that I helped out with the talk on the 'Interesting uses of Leather', then realised I had taken my pills two hours ago and crawled into bed with 'Defying Gravity' sweeping through my mind.

So, a wonderfully enjoyable day, and here's hoping the next one is just as good!
